A Voice Once Again – Good News for December 23

23 12 2008

Luke 1:57-66

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.

When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.”

But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God.

Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.”

The Daily Path: I can imagine the surprise felt by his neighbors when Zechariah was suddenly able to speak again. How would your neighbors act if you suddenly proclaimed your faith in ways unexpected? I’m no Zechariah, but I think some of my friends and neighbors are still a little stunned over my return to my Catholic roots. That’s okay because I hope many of them will be blessed by God’s touch in the days ahead. If they could come to know the same joy I’ve experienced with God in my life, I’m certain they’d all rush to begin their own spiritual journey.

In these last two days before Christmas, I want to express my thanks to everyone who has brought Good News To-Go! into their life. No matter how many times you’ve visited, I hope reading the Good News of Our Lord has brought some measure of peace into what can often be a storm. Your many comments have inspired me to continue. It’s my Christmas prayer that more peace will be present in your lives as you find ways to incorporate more of God and His love and mercy into each day. Look for Him in your life and listen…

Lift up your heads and see, your redemption is near at hand. (Luke 21:28)
