The Right Road – Good News for March 5

No idea where I am going…

Matthew 7:7-12

Jesus said to his disciples, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asked for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asked for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.

“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.  This is the law and the prophets.”

The Daily Path: The following prayer, written by Thomas Merton, is all about my daily path. Yours, too?

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not men that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face perils alone.

Room to Chat: Next time you’re in the doctor’s waiting room, instead of reading a six-month old Newsweek, why not close your eyes and knock on God’s door? If your M.D. is anything like mine, you’ll have plenty of time to chat with the Man Upstairs.
