Open Your Heart – Good News for March 21

21 03 2009

Here’s the real secret…

Luke 16:9-14

Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else.

“Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, ‘O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity greedy, dishonest, adulterous or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.’

But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heavenbut beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’

I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Daily Path:  “God be merciful to me a sinner.” I can tell you with absolute certainty that God is merciful. You may ask “How are you qualified to make such a statement?” Let me tell you…

Despite all my countless shortcomings, all the times I let Him down every day, God somehow finds it in his heart to continue to shower me with abundant blessings. He would have been justified in leaving me on the Failed Project heap many years ago. He could have allowed me to follow a path that led to only one place. I assure you it wasn’t Heaven. But He didn’t. God is merciful, loving and generous beyond belief. He’s given me a beautiful family, true friends, and just enough wisdom to be able to recognize His works. Here’s the secret…

All you have to do is open your heart to God

There you have it. It’s that simple. Open up your heart to Christ. He knows what’s in there anyway. Let March 21 be the day that you push open that heavy iron door you call a heart. Just a tiny crack. Ask God to come in and show you what he’s got. I’m not promising it will happen in an instant, or overnight. But I can say without reservation that when I finally opened my heart to God things began to happen. Miraculous things that would not have happened otherwise.

Room to Chat: Lord, thank you for reaching out to bring me back into your presence. And thank you for Brooke (she’s beautiful) and my amazing family. I didn’t deserve any of this.
