Asking Dad – Good News for May 22

22 05 2009

John 16:23-28

Jesus said to his disciples, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

“I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

The Daily Path: Prayer has become an important part of my life. The time I carve out for conversations with God is the best part of my day. It’s often the only place I find peace and true joy.

Now you might ask “What about your wife and kids? How do they feel about that statement? Aren’t they the most important part of your life? Don’t they bring you true joy”

My answer is this: The peace and joy my family brings me are part of my conversation with the Father. A conversation is not just words thrown about between two beings. A conversation is an intimate association. As such, my family is a huge part of that which is most important to me above all else… God.

Room to Chat: Take a peace break today. Get up from your desk or work bench and ask “Dad” to go for a short walk with you. While you’re walking ask Him, in the name of Jesus, to bring you peace.

Postscript: Today my wife and I celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. Anne thank you for allowing me to walk alongside you on the journey. Your unconditional love has made all the difference in my life. I don’t know why you put up with me, but I’m glad you do! I love you.
