Vision Restoration – Good News for October 3

3 10 2009

Luke 10:17-24

The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

At that very moment he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

The Daily Path: As I read this morning’s gospel it caused me to consider how fortunate I am that God reached out to restore my sight. It’s not that I was deserving. In fact, I was probably at the end of the deserving line. “Now serving number 4,567,392,228. Please have your vision restoration voucher ready.” No, I wasn’t worthy, but I was in dire need to see God in my life again.

Jesus told his disciples that many do not see and hear what they do. I’m probably at the back of the disciple trainee line, too, but I have been allowed a glimpse of God’s hand in all things. There are many around me that don’t see it. I wish they could because the ability to see God in my life has helped me no end. I have a long, long way yet to go, but I know I’ll get there because I’ve been allowed to see the way.

Room to Chat: Lord, many of your children will bear heavy burdens today. Keith’s family will remember the man who was father and husband until living became to great a challenge for him. Give them a glimpse of your peace and let their healing continue. I believe that You are a forgiving Father and Keith will be welcomed home again by You.

Others, will deal with tremendous anxiety over their ability to keep a roof over their family and food on the table. I believe you will provide all that is needed in our lives. Allow the Spirit within us to provide comfort and the strength to carry on during these difficult times. Restore our vision so that we can see your hand in the circumstances that surround us. And in doing so, let us also find your peace.

Kin,

I’ll be visiting your site from time to time. I’m feeling like I am shaking off the doldrums of my faith, and making a more earnest inner search for the presence of God in my life. I may be walking with you a while, sharing the journey.

Peace,

Tom
