Advent Day 10 – Good News for December 7

7 12 2010

Matthew 18: 12-14

Jesus said to his disciples, “What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

The Daily Path: Since his passing a few years ago, I have made it a point to remember my friend, Edward Buchner, every December 7. “Buddy” as his friends and family called him, survived the infamous Bataan Death March and imprisonment by Japanese military captors for the duration of World War II. To me, Buddy will always be a true hero. Not just for what he did some 70 years ago, but also in how he lived his life following the war. In my experience, he was not a boisterous man. He carried himself quietly allowing his actions to speak rather than a lot of words. I wish everyone could have had the chance to meet Buddy. You couldn’t help but be better for it. I know that God put him in my life for a reason.

We miss you, Buddy, but you’ll never be forgotten.
