Sanctuary found!

Matthew 6:7-15

“In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This is how you are to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

“If you forgive men their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

The Daily Path: Last evening, I attended a beautiful candlelight Mass at St. Monica’s. Our pastor, Fr. Wayne Campbell, brought all the parents of this year’s First Communion class together around the altar for an intimate Eucharistic celebration.

I watched the faces around me, lit only by the flickering candles. Each one had a most noticeable look of peace about them. A piercing inner quiet seemed to lock out all of the individual worry and chaos. (From all their distress God rescues the just) Sanctuary found!

It struck me that this is how God works. Through silence. He doesn’t shout at us in a thundering voice (although He has on occasion). Yet His voice still booms in a perfect calm, like the eye of the hurricane. As I think about it, that’s when I heard his voice calling me back home. Amidst the quiet, not the noise.

Room to Chat: We just received today’s prompt… the Lord’s Prayer.
