The Show Me State – Good News for May 9

9 05 2009

John 14:7-14

Jesus said to his disciples, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to Jesus, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”

The Daily Path: Let me go on record by stating that the Bible is wrong! Yes, that’s correct. I said it.

Why?

Based on the selected passages of the past two days it is clear that the Apostles could not have been from the Asia Minor. They must have been from Missouri, also known as the Show Me State. First it was Doubting Thomas and now it’s Perplexed Philip. All these two can ever say is, “Show me. Show me. Show me.”

Hmmm… Come to think of it… I can be just as bad when failing to trust that all things are in His hands. Oh no! I’m from Missouri, too.

Poor Jesus.

Room to Chat: Today, let’s give Jesus a break and focus on believing.

My Story – Good News for January 27

27 01 2009

Psalms 40:2

I have waited, waited for the LORD, and he stooped toward me. Drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp. Set my feet upon rock, steadied my steps. And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God. Happy those whose trust is the Lord.

Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me.

I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know. Your justice I kept not hid within my heart; your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of; I have made no secret of your kindness and your truth in the vast assembly.

Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.

The Daily Path: Wow! This IS my story… and I’m sticking to it.

Here’s the best part: It can be your story, too. When God stoops down to pick you up, allow yourself to be held.

Room to Chat: If you have children find more opportunities to just sit back and watch them from a distance. Take off your parent lenses and just watch these amazing little gifts from God.
